In a recent post on X, David Lee Roth revealed his new artwork.
Along with a video of the artwork, the singer wrote the following in the caption:
“Warning – This painting contains violence, nudity, obscene language, and constant danger.”
Roth’s Statements On His Art Efforts
DLR has always been interested in art for years. He released many artwork, especially during the lockdown period of COVID. Roth previously told the New York Times:
“My approach is the best of both worlds: vintage and hyper-atomic digital. Sort of like watching ‘Dragnet’ on your iPad. You know, I moved to Japan for two-plus years to study Sumi-e and calligraphy, and four nights a week I trained and then I did homework. Jesus, I’ve spent thousands of hours learning to operate a horsehair brush with a block of ink that I grind myself. Hasn’t changed its recipe in 700 years.”
The rocker added:
“So everything in the comics is hand-drawn — all the typeface, all the colors, the line work, the lighting. And once I’m done, I work with Colin Smith, the Led Zeppelin of Adobe Photoshop. Together we scan everything, and then I’m able to move into areas that otherwise weren’t graphically available without decades of effort.”
Roth has shared his art before, too. In 2009, he released many of his drawings, calling them ‘authentic originals and incompetent imitations.’ He said they answered the question, ‘What do you do in your spare time?’
The Van Halen News Desk also said the frontman has always loved art. While touring, he doodled on things like setlists and tour riders. He helped with the band’s look, designing stage clothes, setting up photo shoots, and creating stage moves. He also worked on early tour books and some t-shirts for Van Halen.
