Comedian John Mulaney sat down with Jimmy Kimmel and revealed that David Lee Roth did not accept his offer to appear on his live comedy show.
Mulaney appeared on the show to promote his new Netflix series, ‘John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA.’ During the chat, he was asked if a celebrity ever refused to work with him. The comedian said there were so many, and explained why Roth decided not to work with him:
“Someone that’s near and dear to your and my heart, Diamond David Lee Roth. He passed, which is okay, I respect the man. He’s a solid guy, he’s a really chill guy. I did want him and I originally asked him to be like my [guest] but then I was like, ‘Or just a guest talk about your time’ because he lived in Altadena. I wanted to talk to him about life in Altadena and he said no to that.”
However, Mulaney did know a way to appeal to Roth:
“I honestly didn’t know how to appeal to him because I’m like, ‘it’s David Lee Roth, I should just call him up and be like let’s party and he might show up.’”
How Else Might Roth Show Up?
Kimmel then pointed out that Roth is a certified EMT, joking that Mulaney should call him next time and say, ‘I’m bleeding!’ to get him to show up.
Amid laughter, Mulaney responded:
“Can you imagine being in a medical crisis and you’re strapped down to the board, and your head’s in that [brace], and you look up and [Roth says], ‘Yeah!’? That must be insane!”
Even though Roth is not in it, Mulaney’s new show includes names such as David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Dr. Lucy Jones, Bill Hader, Nate Bargatze, and Cedric the Entertainer.
