In a new interview with Uncut, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour shared his thoughts on The Beatles’ 2021 documentary television series ‘Get Back.’ Apparently, he was surprised that Paul McCartney agreed to release it.
The footage in ‘Get Back’ showed The Beatles’ recording sessions in January 1969, including their last concert on the roof of Apple headquarters in London. Unused footage was given to Peter Jackson, who made ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ docuseries. It showed the band collaborating happily, but also showed conflicts, like when George Harrison quit. Paul McCartney seemed to lead the sessions in the meantime.
Even though the Pink Floyd rocker thinks it was lovely to watch, he still did not understand how McCartney ‘allowed it.’ He explained:
“Paul being domineering and John [Lennon] ducking back because of the moment he was in at the time and George [Harrison] leaving and coming back. Horrible, really. I mean it’s lovely for us to watch, but I’m surprised Paul allowed it.”
Ringo Starr’s Thoughts On Documentaries
Another Beatles documentary, ‘Let It Be,’ is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ next week. The restored 1970 film has been hard to find over the years. This caused the release of many bootleg copies, but now it will be officially available for streaming for the first time.
Ringo Starr mentioned that there’s ‘not a lot of joy’ in the documentary. Similar to ‘Get Back,’ this documentary too includes their famous rooftop concert. The show was their last performance together as a band.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Starr shared his thoughts on the restored version of the documentary. He said:
“I think Peter Jackson has done an incredible job. For me, not a lot of joy in it. It’s from the point of view of the director, and that was up to him. We found 56 hours of unused tape, we found it and Peter Jackson put his heart and soul into it and it works really well. It’s great because you’ll get another chance to see us on the roof.”
The movie will be released on May 8. You can see the trailer of the upcoming movie below.
