Dave Mustaine discussed how Megadeth’s 2023 lineup change affected their sound during a new chat with Kyle Meredith.
“Well, it depends on who the new player is. If they’re willing to learn the parts, then the songs either they stay where they are or they get better,” he shared.
Megadeth replaced guitarist Kiko Loureiro with Teemu Mäntysaari during their 2023 ‘Crush The World’ tour. The vocalist commented on their new member, “And a lot of times when you have a new player, like when Teemu came in, he played everything identical to the original players. So, he’s been one of the best guitar players to step in and play somebody else’s stuff. I don’t know what his stuff’s going to sound like yet, which I’m looking forward to finding out.”
Loureiro took a break from the band to spend more time with his family last year. Mäntysaari took over the remaining tour dates and became a permanent member when Loureiro extended his hiatus. Dave Mustaine shared his plans to release at least three more studio albums in the following months.
“If it takes two years between an album — let’s just say it does, if I’m able to put them out fast — it’ll probably be three years, but let’s just say it’s two years,” the singer shared on ‘The SDR Show’ about a possible new record. “And I put an album out. We’ve still got about a year left on this one, at least. So, that’ll take us into ‘25.”
Right now, Megadeth is on the road for a US tour. They will be on the Maverick Center stage in West Valley City, UT, on August 17.
