In a new interview with Kyle Meredith, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine explained how he protects the fans from getting hurt in his band’s shows.
“Well, we have a security meeting before we open the doors, and pretty much tell them no roughhousing the fans, and just be kind and polite to them, and let them know that if they come over, they’ve got three chances to come over. You know, because you see some of these really large guys come flying up against the barricade, and there’s some younger fans there, and lot of younger girls there too, and they’ve got 150 to 250-pound guy falling on the back of their neck. People get hurt.”
Though the frontman makes deals with the security before the shows, he once kicked out not one, but several security guards during one of his shows for harassing a fan.
Towards the end of the band’s set, Mustaine had to call out the security guards. He even stopped the song and shouted, “Dudes, don’t be f*cking hitting people. That is totally uncool. Hey, f*ckin’ stop hitting that guy.” Mustaine then ran over to where the incident was happening to confront the security guards and said he wouldn’t continue playing until they were kicked out.
The rocker eventually kicked them out. “…What’s on the back of your shirt? ‘Safety?’ It should say, ‘No F*ckin Safety,’ because you guys are punks, and you shouldn’t have f*cking hit that guy. Four of you on one guy. What a bunch of pussies… Get ’em out of here or I’m leaving. I don’t wanna f*cking hear that they’re in the back. I want them out of here.”
After the security guards were escorted out of the venue, Mustaine went back on stage and continued the show.
