In a new Instagram post, Dave Grohl revealed he has a baby from outside his 23-year marriage.
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” the rocker wrote in a statement. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
Grohl added, “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
The musician didn’t give more details about the new baby or the child’s mother. Grohl has been married to Jordyn Blum since 2003. They got married at their Los Angeles home. The couple just celebrated their 21st anniversary.
They have three kids: Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10. The guitarist met the former model in 2001 at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey Bar, but it wasn’t love at first sight.
“When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,” Grohl recalled in a 2007 interview with Elle.
He continued, “After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”
Two years later, the former Nirvana drummer said he didn’t want to be away from his kids while touring. “I used to tour nine months out of the year. Now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days,” he noted in a chat with Time.
He also stated, “It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
This summer, Grohl and Blum were seen together at Wimbledon in London. Grohl was also married to photographer Jennifer Youngblood from 1994 to 1997.
