There were rumors that Dave Evans wanted to come back to AC/DC in 2016. AC/DC needed a new singer at that time because Brian Johnson had to take a break. But Evans says that’s all just silly talk.
In a chat with José Luis Mata Sanchez, Dave made it super clear:
“We call that in Australia bullsh*t. Okay. Bullsh*t.”
He explained that he was busy doing his own music thing and never thought about going back:
“It was just somebody just trying to get a headline. No, of course not. I was doing my own thing. I wouldn’t be going back there to do that.”
Evans Explains Why Axl Rose Filled In For Brian Johnson
Evans added that AC/DC asked for Axl Rose because Axl and Angus Young were buddies. He says Axl just helped out so the band could keep playing shows:
“Axl Rose was a friend of Angus; they were friends. And he just asked Axl if he could fill in — that’s all — as a friend, and Axl said, ‘Yeah, cool.’ And that’s why he did it. He just filled in while Brian was not in the band. The fans were reading a lot out of it: ‘Axl has joined the band,’ blah, blah, blah, all this bullsh*t that was going on.
He was just helping out so that they could finish the tour. They could have canceled, of course, but Angus wanted to keep playing. So he just asked his [friend], ‘Could you do me a favor and fill in?’ Axl said, ‘Yeah, of course. Why not?’ And that’s all it was. That’s all it was.”
Dave also said that he wouldn’t come back even if AC/DC asked him to. He’s moved on and likes to sing his songs and some of Bon Scott’s songs, too.
He Says True Fans Shouldn’t Compare AC/DC Singers
The host asked Dave who he thought was the best singer of AC/DC. He didn’t hesitate:
“Well, first, Dave Evans is the best, of course. That’s me, okay?”
He also said you can’t really say who’s better because he, Bon Scott, and Brian Johnson are all very different. He thinks it’s not fair to compare them.
Dave left AC/DC way back in 1974. He said it wasn’t because of a big fight or anything. He just wasn’t getting paid and had bills to pay, like anyone else.
