Many soon-to-be newlyweds book their wedding vendors well in advance—often a year before they tie the knot—so that they can secure their desired industry experts and guarantee a smoother, less stressful wedding-planning experience. One engaged couple, however, was left scrambling at the last minute after their wedding caterer retracted their services just two weeks before they were set to walk down the aisle. Here’s where the story gets interesting, though: After posting about the incident on Reddit’s “Am I the A——“ on September 15, 2024, it turns out that the food supplier’s decision to opt out was justified, given the bride-to-be’s unjust accusations.
In her post, the caterer explained that after the couple booked her catering services, she began communicating with them primarily through email. But things took a turn once it was time to meet with them in person, which only happened twice—once with the to-be-weds and their planner and another time with just the duo, according to the Reddit post.
During the meeting with just the couple, the bride accused the vendor of hitting on her fiancé—and she even threatened to post a negative review. “The second time she got very upset and said enough! You are being way too [cutesy] and flirty with my fiancé. Stop it now! We are getting married. Get your desperate hands off my fiancé. How would like it if I put this in your reviews?” the caterer recalled of the conversation.
The OP was “shocked” because she said she had almost only been coordinating with the bride, not the groom, since she has found, in her experience, that brides-to-be are often the ones who call the shots for their nuptials. The Redditor also pointed out that her fiancé didn’t signal any signs of flirting, other than compliment the menu—an innocuous comment. “Like duuuh?” the caterer expressed. “Isn’t that good?”
The groom-to-be also seemed to think his future wife’s assumption was out of left field. The Redditor recalled that when he tried to talk sense into his partner, she told him “he was giggling like a p-word at my lame jokes and why not just f her already,” the caterer recounted. “Then she turned to me and called me a pathetic cow and to get my own man.”
That’s when the caterer drew the line. After witnessing this alleged defamation, the wedding vendor withdrew her services and returned their deposit. The future bride wasn’t too happy about that, of course. “She started bombarding me with emails and messages because she can’t find new catering this fast,” the OP wrote.
Although the wedding professional revealed that she’d rather pay her employees for the last-minute canceled gig than work for the bride, she still looked to Reddit for confirmation that her decision was the right one—and the internet quickly defended the caterer. “She literally blacked you with an unfair review…over being too courteous,” a fellow Redditor pointed out. “Very reasonable to believe this is her first tantrum of many.” Another user echoed that sentiment, writing, “No one should have to put up with that kind of disrespectful behavior, especially in a professional setting. Don’t let her negative energy bring you down.”
Many speculated that the bride’s insulting comments were a reflection of her insecurities, not a realistic representation of the caterer’s behavior toward her fiancé. “I wonder how many other accusations she’s thrown at women for having a conversation with him,” one person wondered, while another said, “Bride has some major insecurities and I’d give some pretty good odds that this wedding doesn’t last long, if it happens at all.”
