In a recent conversation with Revolver, Corey Taylor revealed that Slipknot quickly announced Eloy Casagrande as their new drummer because he was eager to join them.
The frontman shared that Slipknot is in a positive place again, with better communication and support among members. When asked whether Slipknot’s improved communication led to announcing Eloy as the new drummer quickly, Taylor replied:
“I think we just kinda went, ‘You know what? Let’s just tell people.’ It was really as simple as that, you know? Eloy was the only one who was brave enough to get in the room with us. There were a handful of other people that we were looking at, and none of them wanted to jam with us.”
Eloy Was Very Eager To Jam With Slipknot
The singer shared what further impressed them in Casagrande:
“They just wanted to do their own thing and send it in — a very TikTok thing, you know? And we were like, ‘That’s not the way this works, dude.’ Eloy rearranged his schedule to come see us. He was so hungry to jam and just see what would happen that we were immediately impressed just by that alone.”
Corey talked about how they decided to reveal Eloy’s identity:
“He didn’t get it right away — getting to know him was just as important as jamming with him — but by the time we made that decision, we were like, ‘Let’s tell the world now. He’s earned it.’ Our audience is so used to us kind of keeping our cards close to our chest, but to me it was more refreshing to just kind of come out and go, ‘Yeah, he’s our dude.’”
What Does Slipknot Expect From Eloy?
Eloy got a call from Slipknot’s manager in December 2023 after his band Sepultura announced their farewell tour. He left Sepultura two months later. Another two months after that, Slipknot performed their first show with Casagrande in California and soon officially announced him as their new drummer.
In a recent chat with Red Maggotz Casagrande shared that Slipknot encouraged him to keep his drumming style and show his ‘Brazilian roots’:
“That’s who I am, I cannot hide my roots, my essence to just fill in in a band to be just a drummer, and the guys respect that. They never even in a moment said to me to be a different person than I am even with their songs. They never tell me how and what to play, to be specific with their songs, with a live version studio version, they never said anything about it they gave me all the freedom.”
Last month, Slipknot also announced their new song, ‘Long May You Die’ with Casagrande. Slipknot will tour Europe and the UK later this year.
