In a new chat with NME, Colin Greenwood discussed Radiohead’s possibility to return and if they have ever talked about it as a band.
“I don’t know, because I haven’t had [the talk],” the bassist said. “But I was talking to Nick [Cave] about this too. He’s just such an amazing listener, and he was saying that Radiohead would be in a position to go and do whatever we wanted in terms of when we play, what we play and how we play.”
“He was talking about Bob Dylan, who can just be on the road for two years or not at all and play all the hits or something different each night. You can put out a new album or you can do crazy projects. There’s a freedom that we have that we should appreciate. It’s not like we’ve reached a point where people are only interested in listening to something from the first three albums,” he continued. “I think we’re still a band where people might want to know what might happen next. We’re very lucky to have that.”
Back in May, guitarist Jonny Greenwood revealed whether or not there would be new music from the band soon. “Well, the Smile are on tour, Ed is making another solo record, Colin is playing bass with Nick Cave – they’ve just done five sold-out nights at the Sydney State theatre – so lots of music is being made. Just not as Radiohead,” the rocker explained to The Guardian. “We’re still talking all the time, we just need to make a plan and get some time together sorted out in advance. I’ve never been very good at that. Too busy dicking around in this studio.”
More recently, Greenwood said that the band doesn’t have any plans for 2025, both in terms of music and new shows.
Radiohead’s other guitarist Ed O’Brien is currently working on a new solo album, a follow-up to his 2020 release ‘Earth.’ Meanwhile, Thom Yorke has adapted Radiohead’s 2003 album ‘Hail To The Thief’ for a new production of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet,’ set to premiere in Manchester in April 2025.
In other words, there is a lot of Radiohead-related activity happening next year, but not as a band together.
