A “tremendously important” new character joins the Crane-kicking fun when Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 drops on Netflix this November, according to one of the series’ creators, Josh Heald. And the co-showrunner is referring to none other than the mysterious Sensei Wolf, who is portrayed by Deadpool & Wolverine’s own Shatterstar, Lewis Tan. Netflix released a series of first-look photos from the upcoming season featuring Tan alongside all of our returning Cobra Kai faves.
Tan (Mortal Kombat, Shadow and Bone), joins fellow newcomers Patrick Luwis (Rebel Moon, Barbie) and YouTube martial arts sensation Rayna Vallandingham in the next wave of Cobra Kai episodes set to be released on the streaming service. Heald also promises Wolf will be a formidable presence at the Sekai Taikai in Barcelona, so selecting Tan to take on the pivotal role was crucial. Heald explains in an interview with Tudum:
“Casting and designing the character of Sensei Wolf, it needed to be a martial artist. Lewis jumped on our radar because we’ve been following his career and seen him take center stage in so many amazing roles. The idea of getting somebody with his skills and his presence to embody this character was amazing. From the moment he stepped on set, he was pure Sensei Wolf ready for action.”
Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2: ‘We’re Not in the Valley Anymore’
All hell broke loose as Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 came to a shocking end back in July. A grieving Tory Nichols (Peyton List) abandoned Miyagi-Do for John Kreese’s (Martin Kove) international Cobra Kai squad after her mother suddenly died, but Tory’s story of betrayal and redemption is ultimately going to play out a world away from the Valley.
And co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg couldn’t be more excited about the Sekai Taikai taking place in Barcelona, Spain, which is so far removed from The Karate Kid world’s usual Bananarama-esque “Cruel Summer” California setting. Schlossberg said in the same interview with Tudum:
“The first thing that you’re going to notice is we’re not in the Valley anymore. It’s a totally different environment. The competitive space is different from previous All Valley tournaments. There’s no crowd watching. This is a karate temple that they’re going to, where the only people in attendance are black belts or karate masters.”
And the third member of the creative team behind Cobra Kai, co-showrunner Jon Hurwitz, insists Part 2 doesn’t waste any time. Rather, the next allotment of five episodes “gets right into the action.” Hurwitz also touches on the unforgettable and jaw-dropping Tory twist a bit in the same sit-down by saying:
“We left off with the big surprise that Tory has joined Cobra Kai, so we’re in the aftermath of that with everyone reacting to what just happened, while also trying to get their footing –– as the new kids on the block –– of this giant international tournament that has been going on for decades. They have no idea what’s in store for them.”
