Cobra Kai hits Netflix Geeked Week, with the streamer’s event promising to offer insights into several highly anticipated projects, including Squid Game, One Piece, Wednesday, and more. Cobra Kai has been a huge hit for the streaming giant, with fans eager to see more from the final series…despite the lackluster response to Season 6 Part 1. If you weren’t a huge fan of those episodes, you may not care too much about Netflix’s latest video drop — a blooper real. But it’s actually very charming, so check it out for yourself below:
Cobra Kai has been a massive success since it began back in 2018, when it first debuted on YouTube Red before making the move to Netflix with its third season in 2021. The series picks up more than 30 years after the events of the beloved ’80s hit The Karate Kid, taking the point of view of a down on his luck Johnny Lawrence, who makes the decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and thus rekindle his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso.
The story has moved on a long way since then, with Johnny and Daniel eventually joining forces against the likes of Martin Kove’s John Kreese and Thomas Ian Griffith’s Terry Silver, all while training a rag-tag group of young karate enthusiasts. The last audiences saw of the epic tale, Season 6 Part 1 finds Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, as Johnny, Daniel and the students of Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang deciding how best to prepare for and compete in the Sekai Taikai.
The Cobra Kai Franchise Will Continue With a Controversial Spinoff
Cobra Kai is all set to end with its sixth season, but the saga will continue with spinoffs, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg have teased. One such spinoff project currently being worked on by is likely to be a controversial choice, with Schlossberg revealing recently that a Mr. Miyagi prequel is now being discussed.
“It is one of the reasons why we did the Miyagi box story this season. It opens up all these questions about Mr. Miyagi and what his life was like, and that’s been something we’ve been wanting to do for a while. We’ve talked to Robert Mark Kamen, the writer of the original Karate Kid who based this whole movie off his sensei who studied Okinawan karate; we’ve been talking about all this Miyagi backstory with him, which helped us with season six stuff.
“Now that we’re done, we can actually start getting into this stuff. We’ve just been focused on Cobra Kai and finishing it off. And right now, we’re in the process of editing the last couple episodes. Once that’s done, we’ll hopefully have some exciting things…”
Starring Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, and Martin Kove, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix, with Season 6 Part 2 due for release on November 15, followed by Part 3 in 2025.
