Chris Slade shared his thought about an AC/DC reunion in a recent chat with Real Music With Gary. When asked if he’d like to play with his ex-bandmates again, he said:
“Yes, I would. I would.”
The drummer explained:
“I’m still playing with ‘The Chris Slade Timeline’. I’m playing every week. We do gigs. Last Saturday we were in France, in Lyon. In two weeks’ time, we go to Italy. We were in Poland about two months ago, Chechnya, Eastern Germany. We work all over Europe. We were in Spain a couple of years ago. We haven’t been back since. And so I’m playing with my guys, and I’m quite happy to do that. It’s a really, really great band. And there’s no need for me to go back with AC/DC, to be honest, but if they wanted, Angus knows he could ask me any time.”
The Drummer Says He Can Still Perform With AC/DC
The band reunited for a new tour and hired Matt Laug to fill in for Phil Rudd as drummer instead of Chris Slade last year. Still, Slade said he would join them if asked. His words on ‘Rock Camp: The Podcast’ read:
“Of course, I know I would’ve done it. I can’t walk, but I can play drums [Laughs]. I don’t think Angus [Young] believes that, but who knows? I’d probably play it more like Phil [Rudd] does these days, not like Chris Slade did in the ’90s.”
He added:
“I would’ve been interested, definitely. But that’s the way it rolls, you know.”
The Band Has A New Touring Drummer
AC/DC’s first performance with the new touring lineup took place at the Power Trip festival last September. Slade celebrated the news on social media as follows:
“I know Matt as a very nice guy from my days of living in California. He is a very capable, teetotal drummer and will put the drums exactly where Angus wants them….. At the back of the stage. I wish him the best of luck!”
But he had to clarify his statement after some complaints from fans:
“An update to my last post and in answer to some people who seem to have misunderstood and made comments which have inferred the contrary. I am not bitter or ‘whining’ and neither did I expect a call from AC/DC. I merely wanted to say that I know Matt well and he will do an admirable job, because I knew a lot of you would ask me!!”
AC/DC has a few more dates in Europe before they wrap up their ‘Power Up’ tour on August 17.
