Chris Martin confirmed Coldplay’s twelfth album will be their last.
“We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah, I promise,” the singer said in a chat with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “Because less is more and, for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.”
Martin also talked about Coldplay’s future on Ryan Seacrest’s show last year. He mentioned that the band plans to release three more albums before ending, but this doesn’t mean they will break up. Instead, Martin was excited for a new era for Coldplay.
“That is true, but lots [of] more tours [on the way],” Martin responded when asked if the next three albums would be Coldplay’s final studio projects. “I think if you think of something like Harry Potter or… sometimes, you can just feel when a story is gonna end. And that’s what I feel about our albums.”
The rocker further shared, “You know, this is a bit weird to talk about on your shoulder; [but] songs sort of come calling, and I’ve always had a vision of where we’re supposed to go and in terms of albums it finishes, and so I don’t wanna mess with that.”
Coldplay’s new album, ‘Moon Music’ arrives on 4 October. “‘Moon Music’ is kind of the story of waking up in the morning and feeling terrible about yourself, terrible about the world – depressed, isolated, separate, alone, and not able to be yourself. Through the album, it’s a journey to feeling the complete opposite at the end of the day,” Martin told NME about the record.
Last week, Coldplay announced they will play eight stadium shows in London and Hull next year. These will be their only UK and European performances for 2025. They also said that 10 percent of ticket sales will go to the Music Venue Trust, a charity that helps UK music venues and new artists.
