Cher now thinks differently about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after her Rolling Stones comments.
The singer spoke with ET on the red carpet for the premiere of ‘Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion,’ and told the following about Rock Hall as one of the 2024 inductees:
“I’m going to have some words to say. I’m going to accept it in my Cher (way), as me. I can thank [record executive] David Geffen, my friend and most wonderful person ever, and [chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame] John Sykes.”
What Did She Say Earlier?
Cher previously slammed Rock Hall for excluding her during a December 2023 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. She referred to her being the first female artist to have a Number 1 song in the past seven decades and said:
“It took four of them to be one of me… [it’s] the Rolling Stones and me. And I’m not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m not kidding you, I was about to say I’m not shitting you. I’m never gonna change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
Cher Believes She Already Deserved To Be In Rock Hall
It wasn’t the first time the musician criticized Rock Hall. She joined an interview with Vanity Fair in 2011 and stated:
“I have so much of everything that I want that those things don’t usually bother me. It bothers me a little bit more because Sonny [Bono] was a good writer, and we started something that no one else was doing. We were weird hippies before there was a name for it when the Beatles were wearing sweet little haircuts and round-collared suits. … We influenced a generation, and it’s like: What more do you want?”
This year’s induction ceremony will take place on October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Ozzy Osbourne, and Dave Matthews Band are the other inductees for the class of 2024.
