Anthrax drummer and Pantera’s tour partner Charlie Benante posted on his IG after their concert in California with Metallica on August 25. In the caption, Charlie shared his feelings about playing at the SoFi Stadium, and coming across John Travolta:
“Metallica and Pantera at SoFi Stadium, last night was a blast! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I’d play there? But it gets better. Talking to John Travolta about folding 2 slices of pizza together while walking and eating was hilarious. If you’ve seen the opening of Saturday Night Fever, you’ll understand.”
Benante also brought up coming across Jason Momoa, along with Adria Arjona, and Mötley Crüe:
“Seeing Jason Momoa in the pit tearing it up was a highlight for me, made me work harder for sure – I love him. I can’t wait for season 2 of Andor – Adria Arjona will be back as Bix Caleen, was nice to meet her. I need to rewatch season 1 again.
Seeing my buds John 5, Rob Caggiano, John Tempesta, Mike Tempesta and Thomas Sandoval is always fun. The next season of Vanderpump Rules on Bravo TV should be another exciting season. Anyway… I had a great time! I thought the show was great last night, so much energy. We will see you tonight in Chula Vista for another round of Pantera hits.”
Jason Momoa also shared from his IG, mentioning his friend Travis Snyder, who’s been battling with leukemia since 2015, initially planned to attend to the concert, but was unable to do so:
“We had it all set up. I’m so thankful for everyone who made it possible for Travis Snyder to see Metallica and Pantera with Tom Morello. This was a dream for Travis and unfortunately we had some emergency for him last night but he’s good and healing. Still needs your aloha and mana. But I’m so thankful for Metallica for connecting with him. You guys are the soundtrack to our lives. And mahalo for donating to Maui. All Within My Hands Foundation is epic please check it out.”
In an interview dated March, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about their rooted friendship with Pantera:
“We met the brothers on the ‘Ride The Lightning’ tour and became friends with them. This was in Dallas in — what — 1622 or something? It was about 400 years ago. We obviously loved both of them, and they had a posse down there, and we would see them whenever we came through Texas. We watched the band evolve over the years from more rock vibes into that creative, unique force that they became. So, we’ve had a relationship with them for decades and decades.”
Metallica’s ‘M72 Tour’ still continues. They are accompanied by Mammoth WVH, Ice Nine Kills, Pantera and Five Finger Death Punch. Check here for the tickets, and the tour dates.
