In a recent conversation with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips, Buckcherry’s Josh Todd revealed he admired Angus Young’s generosity while touring with AC/DC in May 2001.
Todd said that touring with AC/DC taught him to be humble and cool. AC/DC was very generous, allowing them to use their full sound system and answering all their questions. The frontman continued his words:
“I got to sit on a couch and drink tea with [AC/DC guitarist] Angus [Young] and talk about his career. And [AC/DC singer] Brian Johnson was walking around the room telling jokes. And I was, like, ‘Wow, this is f*cking so amazing.’ Because sometimes you meet musicians and… I give everybody the benefit of the doubt. Not everybody is in a great headspace every day.”
He added:
“So sometimes people can be a little bit not what you thought they were gonna be, and you’ve gotta give ’em a second, and maybe next time it’ll be different. And I always do that with everybody. But when we met those guys, they were the same all the time. And that’s what I loved about them.”
Which AC/DC Album Is Todd’s Favorite?
AC/DC has always been an important band for Todd. In a 2021 chat with Classic Rock, he talked about why the band’s ‘Back in Black’ was such an influential album for him:
“‘Back In Black’ was so important to me because it was one of those records that defined a moment in my life when music had the most influence over me. I just remember being 16 or 17 years old and getting that record. It just fit every aspect of my lifestyle at the time. I would f*ck to it, party to it, and skateboard to it. I remember I was so into that record, I used to keep it on me at all times just to turn people on to it.”
The singer also noted that he started liking AC/DC after his metalhead manager introduced him. He was hooked after seeing Angus and quickly wanted all their records. He became a big fan of Bon Scott and loves the song ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ for its catchy riff and celebration of women.
