In a recent chat with Goldmine, Blue Öyster Cult’s Buck Dharma revealed that their recently released album ‘Ghost Stories’ might be their last.
“At this moment, we’re not planning to do any more recording, but that could change,” Dharma admitted when asked if it’s the band’s final release. “As far as live shows, we’re committed to 2024; we’ll probably do between 20 and 30 shows. We haven’t committed to anything in ’25 yet. Eric and I are getting old, and I’m just wondering if I’ll ever do anything else but get up and play. Because that’s basically what I’ve done for 50-odd years.”
The band has been recording and touring since the late 1960s and continues to do so today. While they are not sure how much longer they will keep touring, they are certain the band will keep going for as long as possible.
“I think we’re throttling back from the years of heavy touring. Eric [Bloom] and I are getting on in years, and we just want to do it at a more comfortable pace,” Dharma said in another interview with Ultimate Guitar. “We’re still booking shows in ’24. I haven’t thought about ’25 yet. But it could go on as long as we can do it. I can still play and sing, I still enjoy it. I don’t much like the grind of tour traveling. But other than that, it’s great to have a job that I can still do, and have been doing it for 50 years.”
Blue Öyster Cult has some tour dates lined up for this year. They are set to perform at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, on September 28. After a few more shows, they will finish up their tour at the Des Plaines Theatre in Illinois on November 2.
