In a new interview with The Guardian, Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson shared the most embarrassing moment he has had — and it includes the Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. When asked about the particular moment he was the most embarrassed, the frontman explained:
“I once threw up on the shoes of one of my vocal heroes, the Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. He sent me home in a taxi with a towel.”
The First Encounter Caused The Incident
The rocker was featured on BBC’s ‘The Rock Show With Johnnie Walker’ for the ‘Rock God’ segment. The Iron Maiden frontman chose Gillan, and he detailed the incident in the interview. Apparently, it was the first time that he met his ‘rock God,’ and with his excitement came the urge to vomit. He explained:
“We’ve done an album in Ian Gillan’s studio. We’ve all been up the pub and had a few pints. In walks my god, Ian Gillan, and goes, ‘Hey, what a great vocalist. Who’s the singer?’ At that moment, I felt the sudden urge to vomit. I ran out of the room [and] puked up for about 45 minutes in the toilet. In comes my idol, kicks the door and goes, ‘Come on, mate. Out you come. Let’s get you wiped down with a towel.’ He put me in a taxi and sent me home. I’ve never forgotten that – and he’s never let me forget it either.”
Dickinson has previously mentioned that ‘Fireball’ is one of his favorite Deep Purple songs. You can hear the frontman’s favorite track down below.
