The actress wore the jeans in an ad campaign in 1980 when she was 15 years old
is giving up her most iconic pair of jeans.
The 59-year-old actress is auctioning off the denim she wore in her controversial 1980 ad campaign for Calvin Klein as part of ‘ next event “From Bombshells to Blasters: An Auction You Can’t Refuse.”
The auction will feature memorabilia from blockbuster franchises like the Star Wars and Alien franchises, as well as collectibles from icons including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Marlon Brando.
Shields will be putting up a handful of her own personal items including the Calvin Klein jeans, her script from the 1980 film The Blue Lagoon and her high school cheerleading sweater, which she tells PEOPLE she’s very “proud” of.
“I hope that matters to somebody else,” she adds.
Of her contributed pieces — particularly her CK jeans, Shields tells PEOPLE: “I am going to be an empty nester! I’m so sad. But now I’m going through all my closets and my things and am ready to give some of my special pieces away, like my Calvin Klein jeans. Can you imagine my waist was ever that small? It’s terrifying! But I hope that somebody enjoys these just as much as I have and finds them as meaningful as I do. I can’t wait for someone to show these off!”

Shields was only 15 years old when the 1980 ad was released. Her age sparked controversy due to the commercial’s provocative tagline: “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”
In 2023, Klein told PEOPLE that reflecting on the ad, he sees it as “fun, innocent and yes, sexy as hell.” Shields also shared that the tagline had a different meaning for her. She recalled, “I had a dog, and I would say, ‘Nothing comes between me and my puppy.’ It was an expression.”

“I didn’t think of it as, I’m not wearing any underwear,” she added.

On a 2023 episode of her , Shields told guest that her mom had kept three of the original pairs featured in the commercial. She explained that one pair was given to the Metropolitan Musem of Art while the others were still in her possession
“The other two I’m gonna frame in plexiglass, you know, a frontal and then the back,” the model explained.
The “From Bombshells to Blasters: An Auction You Can’t Refuse” auction will take place over two weekends from Sept. 20 to 22 and Oct. 25 to 27 (Shields’ items will be available at the October auction).
“I’m excited to work with Studio Auctions to give these pieces a new home. Each of these items represent a different chapter of my life, and I think it’s really meaningful to be able to share these personal memories and parts of myself with people who will appreciate them,” Shields tells PEOPLE.
The event takes place in Burbank, Calif. and will be streamed for bidders worldwide. Pre-bidding opens Aug. 20 at .
