Break out the corsets, tune up the string quartet, and put the kids to bed because filming on Bridgerton Season 4 is officially underway. The new season will focus on everyone’s favorite Bohemian, Benedict, as he chases The Lady in Silver, known as Sophie Baek. Luke Thompson will once again return to reprise his role of the second Bridgerton son, with Yerin Ha portraying his love interest. Per Deadline, filming is now underway in the UK at Shepperton Studios as everyone is hard at work to bring the third book in Julia Quinn’s novel series to life.
Joining Thompson and Ha in Bridgerton Season 4 are newcomers Katie Leung, who will portray Lady Araminta Gun, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li, and Isabella Wei taking on the role of Posy Li. Also in focus this season is Emma Naomi’s Alice Mondrich and Hugh Sachs’ Brimsley, who have thus far remained background players in the series, but will finally get their day in the sun next go around. Check out the official announcement from Netflix below, which also reveals a behind-the-scenes photo of Thompson and Ha.
Up until now, Benedict has been the wild child of the Bridgerton family, opting to explore his sexuality instead of settling down like his siblings. Season 4 will look to expand on that even further, while at the same time throwing a wrench into the young stallion’s free-spirited lifestyle that may or may not bring his raging hormones under control. Fans of the novels already know the outcome, but we won’t spoil it for those whose exposure to Bridgerton has only been confined to the Netflix series.
When Does Bridgerton Season 4 Come Out?
Debuting in 2020, Bridgerton was an immediate hit for Netflix thanks to its steamy love scenes and Regency-era storylines set to a modern-day soundtrack. Dubbed by some as a cross between Downton Abbey and Gossip Girl, the series offers to satiate those looking to add a little more spice to their Jane Austen. Something it does extremely well (the mirror scene, anyone?).
However, fans looking for a 2025 return of Bridgerton will most likely be let down, as the series seems to be following a biennial release strategy that continues with Season 4. Each season has taken around eight months to shoot, and we should expect that production time to hold firm for the new season. From there, it will head into post-production to add in the various layers that have thus far proven successful. Speaking with The Wrap earlier this year, showrunner Jess Brownell lamented that as much as she’d like to get on a yearly schedule, it’s just not a realistic goal at this point.
“I’ll be honest, yearly is probably out of the cards. This is such a giant production. It is like making eight short feature films, just in terms of how many storylines we have to write, and then the production obviously is an enormous undertaking. We are doing everything in our power to start releasing seasons more quickly, but once a year might be a hard target to hit.”
Season 4 of Bridgerton will once again be made up of eight episodes. However, it’s unclear at this point if they’ll be split into two parts like Season 3 was. We’ll have more news on the production as it progresses.
