Brian May’s wife Anita Dobson gave a health update after the musician’s scary stroke.
“He’s been told to rest. It’s hard to keep him resting, but I think he needs to otherwise he won’t get well,” Dobson shared with The Sun. “He’s doing great – he’s on the road, he’s doing really, really well. We’re very pleased.”
She also added, “I’m completely confident that he’ll make a full recovery. But, you know, you have to take things slowly, just chill a bit. He’s not that kind of animal!”
May said earlier this month that he had a stroke that made his left arm unusable, but he can still play guitar. “I’m here to bring you first some good news I think. The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” the guitarist explained on Instagram. “I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a ‘minor stroke.’”
The guitarist then stated, “All of a sudden – out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm. So it was a little scary, I have to say. I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went. Blue lights flashing the lot – very exciting.”
“I didn’t wanna say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding it, I really don’t want sympathy,” Brian added. “Please don’t do that, because it’ll clutter up my inbox, and I hate that.”
He lastly said, “The good news is I’m OK. I’m not allowed to go out – well, I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. I’m not allowed to have planes flying over, which will stress me. But I’m good.”
In 2020, May said he almost died from a heart attack and emergency surgery. The heart problems were discovered after he hurt a muscle in his buttock while gardening.
