Korn guitarist Brian Head Welch has shared a post on Instagram to thank the creators of ‘South Park’ and recalled the experience.
“I’ll never forget recording our lines for KoRn’s ‘South Park’ ‘Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery’ episode at a remote studio location while on tour somewhere in the US In 1999,” he wrote in the caption of the post. “Experiencing how Matt Stone and Trey Parker put together their twisted Southpark episodes was a memory we’ll never forget.”
“But then something even more exciting happened! They couldn’t use the audio we recorded remotely. So what did that mean??? An in-person visit to the infamous South Park Studios! A 28 year old male’s dream in 1999,” Welch revealed. “All of us Korn members were gifted with an even closer look at how these disturbed gentleman worked their magic, though it didn’t seem like real ‘work.’ All we did was laugh for hours with Matt and Trey! So many people have asked us about that experience over the years, and I’m grateful for the memories.”
In a previous interview, frontman Jonathan Davis revealed that they had to record the scene all over again because someone in the studio ‘forgot’ to hit record. “So we did this stuff, we did the whole thing, we put in the camera all excited. I think it was four or five days later after recording the audio for the South Park scene, someone forgot to hit record, so we did the whole thing for nothing. So we had to go back in after we did the show. Literally did the show and went into a studio that night because there was a deadline. Redid the whole thing and as soon as this was over, they flew me back to LA to go right to their studios to pick up somebody.”
In the episode, radio station KOZY 102.1 sponsors a ‘Halloween Haunt’ featuring Korn, much to the dismay of Priest Maxi, who protests against Halloween and accuses Korn of being satanists. After a series of misadventures, they discover that Priest Maxi is behind a ghostly chaos. The episode ends with Korn performing ‘Falling Away from Me,’ and shocks the audience.
