Saturday Night Live‘s Bowen Yang shared some cryptic, but intriguing, details about a particularly problematic past host of the sketch comedy show. Yang sat down with Matt Rogers and Andy Cohen for a game of “Truth or Kink” on the latter’s Watch What Happens Live!, and revealed that there’s been at least one SNL host who managed to seriously ruffle some cast members’ feathers. In the words of Yang, who has been with SNL since 2018:
This man who—this person, this host—made multiple cast members cry on Wednesday before the table read because he hated the ideas.
Yang went on to say the experience was “terrible.” But, from then on, he was tight-lipped. And, of course, as a professional, he did not name names.
Who Could the Mystery Host Have Been?
As mentioned, Yang joined SNL in 2018. For his first year, Season 44, he was solely a writer before becoming a cast member for Season 45. Even after narrowing it down from Season 45 to now, there have been a lot of male hosts, making it almost impossible to nail down who he is referring to in his comments.
Between Season 45 and 46, Saturday Night Live‘s host list contained some huge star names, such as Woody Harrelson, David Harbour, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, John Krasinski, Dan Levy, and even Elon Musk to name a few. While all of these stars have earned the right to pass judgment on the comedy material of others – we will let you decide if Musk fits into this group – many of them are also unafraid of sharing an unpopular opinion every now and then – and this is where Musk does find his place in the collective.

Saturday Night Trailer Teases the Profane Chaos Ahead of the First SNL Episode
Jason Reitman’s all-star movie takes place in the chaotic hours before the first episode of Saturday Night Live aired.
As mentioned already, Saturday Night Live is the kind of show that has often courted controversy, whether for its choices of guest star, or for some jokes that certain corners of the internet are quick to take offense at for one reason or another. In the grand scheme of things, one guest host making someone cry is probably not something that anyone linked to the show is going to lose a night’s sleep over – and the same probably goes for whichever host was at the center of the incident.
SNL is currently heading into a celebratory year, with a milestone Season 50 on its way, as well as the biographical movie entitled Saturday Night, which brings in an all-star cast to tell the story of the hours leading up to the first ever episode of the series back in 1975.
