The sixth installment in the hugely successful action franchise Jason Bourne (including the Jeremy Renner-led The Bourne Legacy) is now in early development, and the title for the sequel may have now been revealed. In a new listing via Production Weekly, the next outing for the amnesiac spy is titled The Bourne Dilemma, which would fit nicely alongside the likes of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum. Of course, it could also be a wry joke made by production over the dilemma they find themselves with the franchise and while awaiting to hear from lead actor Matt Damon…
As well as possibly revealing the title of the project, the listing also states that director Edward Berger, who is now in high demand following the release of the multi-Oscar winning World War I movie All Quiet on the Western Front back in 2022, has signed on to take the reins of the Bourne series. This year, Berger helms the thriller Conclave starring Ralph Fiennes, which was met with critical acclaim after its debut at the 51st Telluride Film Festival back in August. The filmmaker has also been rumored to be in line to helm the next James Bond movie, though, surely, he will only pick one iconic action hero. Two would be greedy.
It is still currently unknown whether Matt Damon is on board with the continuing Bourne franchise. However, the actor has said recently that he is open to returning, and would love to work with director Edward Berger.
“There is a great director named Edward Berger. [‘All Quiet on the Western Front’] is a fantastic film, and he’s wonderful and he said he had an idea [for Bourne]. I would love to work with him, so he’s working on it. Look, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing [happens] — I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”
The Bourne Dilemma Could Make up for the Disappointing 2016 Sequel
The first Jason Bourne movie, The Bourne Identity, was released back in 2002 and introduced audiences to what would become one of modern action cinema’s greatest characters. The story begins after a man with a bullet-ridden body is found and looked after by strangers and awakens with no memory. Setting off on a journey to learn his identity, he slowly uncovers the dark secrets of his past…and his talent for punching people.

Jason Bourne Star Reveals If They Will Return for the Next Sequel
Can we expect to see this familiar face return in future Bourne films?
The first sequel, The Bourne Supremacy, finds Bourne being falsely framed in a CIA operation (a big mistake), with the third movie in the original trilogy, The Bourne Ultimatum, following Bourne as he sets out to track down a CIA official whilst trying to retain memories of his forgotten past. Somewhere in the middle was an attempt to spawn a spin-off with Jeremy Renner, but when that didn’t take off, Damon returned as Bourne for 2016’s Jason Bourne. Sadly, the follow-up was nowhere near as revered as its predecessors, with fans hoping that, should The Bourne Dilemma happen, it will return to the acclaimed action thrills of the original three movies.
