Fans have been patiently waiting for the return of the hit Amazon Freevee series, Bosch: Legacy, since the end of last year, and we now know when Titus Welliver will return as the titular detective. Speaking with Collider recently, it was Welliver himself who offered up the information, revealing that Bosch: Legacy “is coming out in 2025.” So, unfortunately, we’re just going to have to stay patient.
Bosch: Legacy is now one of the most popular shows developed by Amazon, and stars Titus Welliver as former LAPD detective Harry Bosch. A sequel to the Amazon Prime Video series Bosch, which ended in 2021, the series finds the title character ditching the Los Angeles Police Department and entering a new phase in his career. Now working as a freelance private investigator, the sequel series finds Bosch working with one of his former adversaries, high-powered defense attorney Honey “Money” Chandler, played once again by Mimi Rogers.
It has since been revealed that Bosch: Legacy Season 3 will be inspired by the Michael Connelly novels “Desert Star” and “The Black Ice.” The former novel follows Bosch as he teams up with Renée Ballard to hunt a killer described as his “white whale” who evaded Bosch in the past and is responsible for the murder of an entire family, while the latter follows Bosch as he investigates the case of a dead LAPD narcotics detective who had seemingly gone bad and begun selling a new drug called Black Ice.
All of which suggests that Harry Bosch will have plenty to keep him busy, and audiences hooked, when he returns next year.
A Bosch Spinoff Series Is Now in the Works
The success of both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy has sparked an expansion in the franchise, with a new spinoff centered on another of author Michael Connelly’s characters, Detective Renée Ballard, now in the works. Ballard will be introduced in Bosch: Legacy Season 3 and is all set to be played by Nikita and Mission: Impossible IIIstar Maggie Q, with Titus Welliver comparing the relationship between the detective and his PI as to that of Batman and Robin. He told Collider:
“Well, we introduced her in the tenth episode of Season 3 of Legacy, which is coming out in 2025, and I am doing some episodes of the Ballard spin-off. We have to keep the universes together. Bosch and Bosch: Legacy is the mothership of all things, but the brand is the brand, so you can’t do Robin without having Batman. Maggie Q is gonna kill me for saying that. She’s like, ‘Bullshit, man. Maybe I’m Batman, and you’re Robin.’ But she’s awesome as Ballard, so I’m excited for Season 3 to come out because we pulled all the stops out. It’s a really tight, strong, strong season — one of our best, if not maybe our best.”
