Kate Middleton stepped out with Prince William on Thursday, October 10, visiting a community centre in Southport to discuss mental health in the wake of the tragic mass stabbing that took place in July.
Kate’s participation in the engagement was unannounced, and marked her first official public appearance since the end of her cancer treatment in early September. This was obviously a major and closely-watched return for the princess, and body language expert Judi James said she was very much in-sync with Prince William.
“One very sweet, familiar trait is that of intense mirroring between Kate and William,” Judi explained to the . “This has always been their signature look and it is happily as intense as ever. There are times they sit looking completely twinned here, heads cocked at the same angle to listen and hands clasped over their knees. Even their outfits are matching.”
Judi also noted that Kate exhibited signs of “inner tension” while arriving at the engagement (including clasping her bag in front of her with both hands), but “she visibly relaxes as the visit goes on, until she is standing talking to one of the responders in a more energetic, animated way.”
It’s unclear how many royal engagements Kate will participate in now that she’s finished with her preventative chemotherapy. In September she made it clear she’ll be taking things pretty easy, saying on that “doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.
