Blink-182 had to cancel three shows in Mexico this week for Mark Hoppus’ health issues.
The pop-punk icons had already canceled the April 3 show at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Then on Friday, they called off the two remaining dates at the same venue scheduled for April 5 and 6.
The frontman took to Instagram to apologize for canceling the shows. He wrote:
“Mexico, we are so sorry to have canceled the shows. We needed to get back home and get healthy, we tried our hardest on the first show, and things got progressively worse since. We are working on new dates, but we are heartbroken that we couldn’t be there and do what we have been waiting to do for so many years. We love you so much, and we are going to come back and see you very soon. We promise.”
Hoppus’ Apology
Blink-182 is touring to promote their latest album ‘One More Time…’ They had planned to play four nights at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. However, after their first show on April 2nd, they had to cancel the second one because of Hoppus’ illness. The band hoped to do the last two shows, but Hoppus’ health took a turn for the worse.
In a statement, Hoppus said they never took canceling lightly and explained:
“We don’t take cancelling lightly. We know people booked flights, hotels, made plans, got babysitters. We had multiple lengthy discussions all morning within the band, with promoters, managers. We tried moving the date, tried every possible solution, but this is the reality. We appreciate your understanding and support.”
He added that the band canceled the shows due to the infection in his throat and severe bronchitis:
“For me and my illness, I have seen a doctor here and talked to my doctor back home. I am on multiple medications and have been in bed the past three days except to go to the show, and yesterday I was hoping it was just allergies… Saw docs, was told I had an acute infection in my throat and severe bronchitis. Got on meds immediately with the kind help of the local promoters and have been on treatment.”
The Fans Slammed One Another
Although the band clearly stated that they were canceling due to health issues, some fans complained about the cancellation of the dates. A fan wrote under Hoppus’ recent post:
“Dude, what the hell happened? How do you guys cancel three concert dates like that, without offering a detailed explanation?”
As a result, other fans slammed and called them selfish for complaining about the cancelation without considering Hoppus’ health first. One user wrote:
“All the people complaining about this cancellation, I’m not even going to get into how selfish you are because I know Mark likes respect on all of his pages. But as far as rescheduling goes, all these people saying ‘you didn’t even reschedule’ – you guys need to realize the band members are not responsible for scheduling or rescheduling their own shows — that is the promotions company. Aka LiveNation. Also you’re asking for something to be done overnight. Booking tour dates and rescheduling venues and travel plans does not happen overnight. Tours are usually planned at least 2-3 years in advanced. Venues get booked up over a year in advance. But of course people only think of themselves and can’t think of things logically. Anyways Mark hope you get better love ya.”
We wish Hoppus to get better soon.
