Green Day once again made it clear that they are ‘not a part of MAGA agenda.’
In one of the band’s recent performances, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong changed the lyrics during their hit song ‘American Idiot.’ While performing, Armstrong changed the lyrics and replaced the original line where he said he wasn’t on board with the ‘redneck agenda’:
“I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.”
Green Day’s History Of Lyric Change On Stage
Green Day has been vocal about social and political issues since the beginning of their careers.
They changed the lyrics of the same song during the Trump presidency at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in 2019. Also, right after Trump’s election win in 2016, they spoke out against him while performing their song ‘Bang Bang’ at the American Music Awards. Armstrong sang ‘No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA’ during the performance.
Green Day Received Backlash
During a New Year’s Eve show, Armstrong also changed the song’s lyrics to criticize the MAGA movement. This caught Elon Musk’s attention. The billionaire took to X to share his thoughts about the performance:
“Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it.”
Another user replied:
“Milquetoast. Noun. Milque·toast, ˈmilk-ˌtōst. Synonyms of milquetoast: a timid, meek, or unassertive person. You’ll learn stuff here on X.”
Even with the criticism, the rockers still went on to change the lyrics. You can see the performance here.
