Kyle Chandler is the latest high-profile star to join Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Netflix crime thriller RIP, with Joe Carnahan writing and directing. The ensemble cast includes R&B singer/actress Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Nestor Carbonell, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Damon and Affleck’s artist-led studio Artists Equity will produce the film, marking a reunion between the pair and Chandler.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chandler has been tapped to play a DEA Agent in RIP. The actor is famously known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights, and he was recently tapped to lead the DCU Green Lantern TV show Lanterns as Hal Jordan. “The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” reads the official synopsis. HBO is producing the eight-episode Lanterns with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios.
Chandler is reuniting with Affleck on RIP after previously starring together in 2012’s Argo. He also appeared in 2016’s Manchester by the Sea alongside Affleck’s brother Casey Affleck, with Damon producing. Chandler’s small and big screen credits include Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, Zero Dark Thirty, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, among many more. Up next, he will be seen in 2025’s Back in Action starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, and the suspense thriller Anniversary by Oscar-nominated director Jan Komasa.

RIP boasts a diverse cast that’s sure to attract a wider international audience. The film follows a group of Miami cops who turn on each other after discovering millions in cash in a stash house. Per Netflix, here’s the official logline:
“Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.”

Action movie fans have been waiting patiently.
According to THR, Moreno and Carbonell are playing members of the police force, while character details for Taylor and Calle’s characters have not been revealed. Taylor recently received rave reviews for her performance in the critically acclaimed drama A Thousand and One, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. Calle is best known for her breakout role as Supergirl in The Flash. Meanwhile, Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) can currently be seen in the new season of MGM+’s supernatural drama From and will next appear in the John Wick spinoff Ballerina. Carbonell is part of the Emmy-winning ensemble cast of the Apple TV drama series The Morning Show.
Affleck, Damon, Luciana Damon, and Dani Bernfeld are producing RIP for Artists Equity, with Michael Joe and Kevin Halloran executive producing. The studio’s other projects include Air, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Small Things Like These starring Cillian Murphy, as well as the sequel to The Accountant, Variety reports. Netflix has not announced the release date for RIP.
