The Emmy Award-winning star of ‘The Bear’ attended her first Met Gala on Monday in a custom look.
Ayo Edebiri has hit the carpet of her very first Met Gala.
The Bear’s breakout star, who has become a fashion darling with a series of custom looks during awards season, teamed with Loewe for a custom floral, backless column dress. The halter-neck gown was covered in a hand-painted, hand-embroidered floral lace and accessorized by 3D appliqué flowers delicately placed to look in bloom.
In an interview with Vogue, Edebiri said that of her options this year, this “was the one that spoke to me the most.” Her stylist, Danielle Goldberg, then relayed that it also was the creation that Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson was most stoked about.
“That really locked that in for me, in my heart,” Edebiri added to Vogue. “The level of craftsmanship that it took to make this dress is so beyond. Looking into those details, taking that into consideration, it just amplifies that feeling for me.” During the Vogue red carpet live stream, she told host LaLa Anthony, “This is a Loewe fantasy. … Feeling really easy but at the same time very intentional.”
For the accessories, Edebiri picked Boucheron’s bleu infini pendant earrings from the brand’s timeless high jewelry collection, set with pear-shaped aquamarines, paved with diamonds on white gold, along with a hummingbird ring set with an aquamarine, paved with diamonds and sapphires, on white gold.
This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, which dovetails with the latest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens to the public Friday, May 10. The Andrew Bolton-curated show spotlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. The exhibit’s coffee table book will be released on June 18.
