In a new appearance on Call Her Daddy podcast, Avril Lavigne talked about an internet theory suggesting she was replaced by someone else named Melissa Vandella over 20 years ago after her first album, ‘Let Go,’ came out.
The singer told the following about it:
“Oh… yeah… that one! I know what you’re talking about. I mean, it’s just funny to me. On one end, everyone’s like, ‘Oh my god, you look the exact same, you haven’t aged a day.’ But then other people are like, you know… There’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.”
Then she joked with a thumbs-up, saying it’s not bad, even cool. She thinks it’s not negative and feels okay with it. She added:
“I mean, obviously I am me – it’s so dumb!”
Lavigne Speaks About The Starting Point Of The Theories
When asked why she thinks the rumor started, Avril said:
“I think that they’ve done that with other artists – I’m not the only one. I think, like, other people have that.”
The conspiracy theory claims that Lavigne died by suicide due to fame pressures and her grandfather’s death. It suggests an actress named Melissa Vandella, who looks like Lavigne, took her place.
Vandella was supposedly hired to pose for paparazzi and later to record music as Lavigne. Fans point to differences in appearance and style, like facial features and clothing choices, and believe song lyrics and a ‘Melissa’ tattoo hint at the switch. They also note changes in her handwriting over time.
