The ‘Wicked’ stars attended the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, opting to wear Elphaba emerald green and Glinda pink in honor of their beloved characters from the upcoming movie musical.
Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo channeled their characters’ signature colors for the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony red carpet.
Grande opted for a 1950s-esque sleeveless pink ankle-length gown, from designer Thom Browne, according to WWD. The chic dress featured a pink bow in the front. The Grammy Award-winning singer finished the ensemble off with white gloves and a long pink bow in her tied-back hair.
Erivo, also in a 1950s-esque gown, dazzled in her character Elphaba’s signature emerald color. The Tony Award-winning actress wore a strapless dress with an angular skirt. Erivo added a dramatic flair to the outfit with a matching wide-brim hat. Unlike her co-star, she opted to skip gloves and instead color-coordinated her long, intricately decorated nails.
The pair are set to star in Jon M. Chu‘s adaptation of the Tony-winning musical Wicked, hitting theaters this fall. Erivo and Grande have been vocal about their love for their characters Elphaba and Galinda or Glinda, the Good Witch, respectively.
The co-stars have also been vocal about their appreciation for one another. Erivo and Grande each posted a photo on their Instagram story of them holding hands in their coordinated looks from the Opening Ceremony.
In addition to their several coordinated looks before the Wicked press tour has even officially started, Erivo and Grande made their friendship permanent with matching tattoos. From Instagram Stories, the co-stars got matching “For Good” tattoos, a nod to their characters’ well-known Wicked duet, along with another matching flower tattoo.
Earlier this month, Universal Pictures announced that the musical feature will now hit theaters Nov. 22, moving up from its previously scheduled release on Nov. 27.
