Netflix’s Arcane is gearing up for its second and final season, and the latest teaser promises an all-out war between Pitover and the undercity. Based on the immensely popular game League of Legends, Arcane provides a backstory for some of the game’s most popular heroes. What some expected to be a mediocre cash grab shocked everyone when it was quickly regarded as one of Netflix’s best shows to date and by far its best animated series.
The shocking finale of Season 1 saw Jinx (Ella Purnell) decimate the Piltover city council, giving in to her violent desires. The latest teaser for Season 2 promises Jinx’s actions will have devastating consequences, both on the surface city of Piltover, and the undercity of Zaun. The teaser is just a preview of what will be shown in Season 2’s first full trailer, which drops online on September 5. Check out the teaser below:
With the tagline “Rally your forces,” Season 2 of Arcane is looking to give the show an explosive finale. After her actions in Season 1, it appears as though Zaun has rallied behind Jinx as a new leader and hero who is worthy of leading the charge against Piltover. Meanwhile, Piltover itself has a new ruler. Teased at the end of Season 1, Ambessa Medarda, a powerful warlord from Noxus, has seemingly taken over Piltover after the destruction of the city’s council, and is bringing authoritarian rule to the once peaceful city.
More League of Legends Stories Are Coming to Netflix
Fans were shocked when it was announced that Season 2 of Arcane would bring the hit show to a close. While it beats the series getting the usual Netflix treatment (being canceled after three seasons with numerous loose plot threads, here’s looking at you GLOW), it was still surprising that such an acclaimed show would be ending so soon. However, Arcane won’t be the only adventure into the world of League of Legends on Netflix.
In June, series co-creator Christian Linke revealed that the studio has “many stories” they want to tell in the League of Legends world of Runeterra. He said:
“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche. From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
No details have been announced about the Arcane spin-offs, if they can be called that. Fans will likely learn more once the second season of Arcane hits Netflix this November. As for now, audiences should buckle up for an explosive finale to one of the best video game adaptations on Netflix.
