The wait is over for Arcane fans. Well, at least the wait to find out when the series will be returning to screens with new episodes. Netflix has finally confirmed multiple dates for the second season of the acclaimed animated show based on League of Legends. During tonight’s Geeked Week Live 2024 event, Riot Games and Netflix revealed the epic conclusion of Arcane will be available on Netflix in three distinct acts. Act One begins November 9. Act Two on November 16, and the final act of the series – Act Three – will be released on November 23. Additional information for each Act to be announced. Check out a new clip from the season below:
Released in 2021, when even there were still doubts that a video game could be effectively adapted into a series, Arcane came as a pleasant surprise, and became an instant hit. Such was the positive impact of the show, that not even the creators themselves expected it, which has resulted in the second installment taking a little while to get in motion.
Created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, the series is set in the same universe as the popular video game known as LOL, and follows the story of two sisters. Powder and Violet grew up in Zaun, a city immersed in poverty where everyone does whatever it takes to survive, even stealing from the richest, who live in Piltover. When a tragic event separates them, the sisters will have to face their own journey just to meet again years later, and the fate of each of them is tied to that of the cities, while a war for technological advancement unleashes chaos.
After several rumors and a long wait, during Geeked Week Netflix finally confirmed that the second season of Arcane will arrive in November 2024, three years after the premiere of the first part:
It may seem like a long time, but considering the great work that the animation of the show demands, in order to maintain its quality, time is essential. Something similar happened with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which was released four years after its predecessor.
Why has Arcane Season Two Taken so Long?
Although the animation of Arcane is something that cannot be put together overnight, the production of the second season has been hindered by another equally important factor; its busy voice cast. Arcane has a long list of important characters, but it all revolves around Vi and Jinx, the leading duo of sisters whose broken bond is the heart of the story. And behind them are two actresses who are going through a great moment in their careers.
Hailee Steinfeld voices Violet, and the actress has been particularly busy in the last couple of years thanks to her involvement mainly two very different Marvel projects. The actress is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Kate Bishop, and subsequently also started voicing Gwen Stacey in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Verse. In addition to the second season of Arcane, her next projects include reprising her voice role of Gwen in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Spider-Woman, and, if rumors are true, will also be joining a Young Avengers project in the near future.
Jinx is played masterfully by Ella Purnell, who also has experience as a voice actress thanks to Star Trek: Prodigy. She has also appeared in live-action shows including Netflix zombie movie Army of the Dead, and had a stand-out performance in the acclaimed Showtime drama Yellowjackets, where she played Jackie. Just like Steinfeld, Purcell is quite in demand at the moment, having also provided voice work for the new season of Invincible, and being set to take a main role in the live-action Fallout series on Prime Video.
The cast of Arcane is completed by Kevin Alejandro as Jayce, Katie Leung as Caitlyn, Jason Spisak as Silco, Toks Olagundoye as Mel, Miles Brown as Ekko, Brett Tucker as Singed, J. B. Blanc as Vander, Harry Lloyd as Viktor, and Remy Hii like Marcus, among others.
