Our world might be turning into a dystopian nightmare, but the one in Apple TV+’s Silo looks far more enticing. The hit sci-fi series returns for its second series on November 15, and the first reviews promise a perfect return to the wasteland and the titular underground bunker. Based on the books by Hugh Howey, Silo follows Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), as she attempts to uncover a major conspiracy in the underground vault where Earth’s survivors reside. Season 1 ended with Juliette venturing out into the decimated world above, while her silo descended into chaos.
The first reviews for Silo Season 2 have dropped ahead of its premiere on Apple TV+, and it could eclipse its predecessor. Season 1 scored a decent 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. But (so far), Season 2 holds the coveted 100% critics rating, with 13 reviews at the time of writing. According to critics, Season 2 treads new ground, and changes the structure from the previous season. However, according to Katie Doll of CBR, it works surprisingly well. “Silo Season 2 follows a controversial structure that surprisingly works,” they wrote in their review. Nick Staniforth of Total Film agreed, awarding the season four stars, and writing:
“A consistently commanding performance from Rebecca Ferguson going it alone and supporting stars keeping busy at home makes Silo a dystopian future worth staying in.”
The most lauded praise comes from Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com. They proclaimed Silo as being “what people always tell me they miss from the heyday of Prestige TV: Character-driven writing that doesn’t treat its audience like idiots.” Tania Hussain of Collider expressed a similar point. In their review, they proclaimed that Silo“continues to surpass the genre.” In full, they wrote:
“By grounding its Orwellian elements into tense yet relatable human struggles with razor-sharp writing, Silo continues to surpass the genre, asking viewers to question not only the motives of those in power but the strength of their convictions.”
Silo Season 2 Nails Being the Difficult Middle Chapter
Fans and audiences have devised a rule that being the second entry in a trilogy is somehow the hardest position. However, some of the best movies of all-time (The Godfather: Part II, The Empire Strikes Back, Toy Story 2, The Dark Knight, and TheShockNews goes on) are second installments. The reviews praise Silo‘s second season as being able to hold its own against the great second entries. Alex Maidy of JoBlo Movie Network put it best, writing:
“Thanks to a finite endgame in sight for where this story will lead, fans can enjoy this middle chapter as the saga of Silo builds the tension to a breaking point.”

At Silo‘s core is the mystery that surrounds the vault’s existence. Is it truly designed to protect the human race? Or is it a means of control designed by a corrupt power? Season 2 delves deeper into this mystery. According to Nicole Austin of Empire Magazine, the show’s return “often raises more questions than answers,” which is to be expected when more seasons are to come, but preserves and expands upon the mystery. They wrote:
“While this latest puzzle box of a season often raises more questions than answers, it remains a gripping series that keeps you guessing whether there’s a grain of truth among the lies.”
