Heart’s Ann Wilson thinks Stevie Nicks is a ‘white witch.’
The singer recently appeared as a guest on the Broken Record Podcast and talked about hanging out with Nicks during the early 1980s:
“She jumped on her plane for a few days. We had a number one record. That’s what it was. That was the magnetism and we were playing in San Francisco. She came out to the show and got up on stage with us and with Grace Slick to sing on ‘What About Love.’ And after the show, she said, ‘Gee, I kind of hate to say goodbye to you guys. Where you going next?’ And we said, ‘Well, we’re going to Phoenix’ and it just so happened that Stevie has another house in Phoenix.”
Wilson Details Their Time With Nicks
Wilson went on to reveal what she thinks about the Fleetwood Mac vocalist:
“So she got on our plane the next day and we all went out to Phoenix and went to her house and hung out after our show. That was an eye-opener. It was cool because she’s everything she says. I mean, she’s a white witch. She’s definitely got herself imaged down and together. She’s very smart and super creative.”
What Did Stevie Say About Witch Rumours?
Fans have long believed Nicks, known for her witchy style and lyrics, to be a witch due to her song ‘Rhiannon.’ Despite her protests, she couldn’t shake the rumors and even stopped wearing black for a while. She told the LA Times in 2013:
“In the beginning of my career, the whole idea that some wacky, creepy people were writing, ‘You’re a witch, you’re a witch!’ was so arresting. And there I am like, ‘No, I’m not! I just wear black because it makes me look thinner you idiots.’”
During the promotion of her album ‘The Wild Heart,’ Stevie talked with ET about witchcraft and how the rumors about her being a witch have affected her over time:
“I do not believe in witchcraft as a natural philosophy at all. I just think it’s fun. And I love black clothes, and I love moons and stars and Merlin hats and Mickey Mouse. But no, I do not believe in that side of it at all. I wish people would stop thinking about that because I spent thousands of dollars on beautiful black clothes and had to stop wearing them for a long time because a lot of people scared me.”
Nancy Wilson also recently reflected on Fleetwood Mac in an interview on the Broken Record Podcast. She admitted feeling jealous of the band because they already had two women who sang beautifully together. They had a similar acoustic style to what she was bringing to her own band. Despite this, Heart was fortunate to have Ann’s unique voice.
