The Rhode Island and New York-based author will be releasing her latest work, , on Tuesday, May 7 via W.W. Norton & Company and we have an exclusive look at the animated cover.
Described in a release as the “most ambitious novel to date” from the author of 11 books including and , Hood’s forthcoming novel follows three characters as they unearth long-buried secrets in the trenches of World War I, and, to their surprise, within their own family trees.
The novel, a blend of historical fiction, mystery, travel and romance, follows characters Enzo, Nick and Jenny. Enzo, a Naples-based artist who in 1935 decides to catch the tears of a famous opera singer with an empty paint bottle, “strives to honor people’s emotions” by launching a Museum of Tears, per the book’s synopsis.

Then, in 1974, Nick decides to find out what happened to the child, assisted by iHop waitress Jenny — who dropped out of college after an unexpected pregnancy of her own. Along the way, she confronts her own difficult choices.
Their search leads the duo to “a surprising place that will leave readers breathless,” the book’s synopsis promises.
