Andy Summers recently discussed a potential The Police reunion with Sonic Perspectives. He said:
“I never personally… With all this sort of stuff, you have to kind of keep your own spirit with it and remain, sort of have a calm place. Because it’s so crazy all the time [with] all this stuff and so much pulling at you. I don’t want to get, ‘Oh God! There’s got to be another Police tour!’ I don’t care.”
The band last reunited for a 2007-2008 world tour. Despite not wishing for it, the guitarist left room for another comeback:
“Maybe there would be. You know, I don’t shut the door on anything, but I don’t think about it. If it happens, give me a call.”
Summers Turned Down Reunion Offers
Summers made it clear in the past that he was not expecting a reunion tour with former bandmates Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Henry Padovani. In fact, he revealed in a 2023 chat with WGN News:
“It would be shocking to me. I don’t think so. There’s calls I get every day from Stewart and Sting and I say, ‘No, no, no, don’t call me.’”
He explained:
“If you really wanted to organize that, it would cost many millions of dollars to put that together. Sure, you know it was one of the greatest bands of all time with more hits than anybody else ever.”
He Doesn’t Want To Shut The Door On The Police
On the other hand, the guitarist told LAist earlier this year that he didn’t want full closure in The Police. His words read:
“I wanna address something else you said about closure because I think I mentioned that word in the film like I want some closure. Actually, I don’t feel that at all now. Why do we need closure? Why don’t we just leave it open and have it be this sort of frustrating open door that just goes on? I think it’s much more exciting. I don’t wanna shut the door lately. I don’t think anybody does.”
He also noted:
“There is no closure because we were so big and blah blah blah. We’re all so connected we have to make business decisions together all the time. We are connected, it doesn’t go away.”
Andy Summers is currently on the road for a solo tour. He’ll play in the US until mid-November.
