Diego Luna recently teased Star Wars fans with the return of a Rogue One fave and the promise that Andor season 2 will get them watching the 2016 prequel film with new eyes. His unexpected update follows the excitement of Lucasfilm dropping Andor‘s first trailer for the show’s second and final season at D23.
According to Luna, Andor season 2 paves the gritty roads that lead to the Rebellion’s victory. He describes the upcoming chapter of the series as providing additional context to the events of Rogue One by explaining:
“I think people watching
Rogue One
, after watching season 2, are going to see a different film. Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It’s going to make you witness the journey of
Rogue One
in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it’ll be really cool.”
Andor tells the prequel story to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which follows the reluctant partnership of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Luna) as they lead a rag-tag team on a covert mission against the Galactic Empire. It’s a thrilling look into the dirty politics of what can make or break a totalitarian regime — even one led by the powerful Sith Lord Emperor Palpatine.

This Andor Character Was a Scene-Stealer Star Wars Writers Should’ve Never Killed Off
Andor is full of great characters, but this scene-stealer should never have been killed off.
Season 1 ends with Andor (Luna) finally convincing Luthen (Skarsgård) to bring him into the fold of the Rebellion. Then Andor‘s finale’s post-credit scene eerily reveals the near-completed state of the Death Star that Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing / Guy Henry / Wayne Pygram) later uses to destroy Princess Leia’s (Carrie Fisher) home planet of Alderaan.
Andor’s Season 2 Brings Back K-2SO
Still, it’s not all Star Wars tragedy! Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Luna eagerly confirmed that Alan Tudyk’s sassy droid K-2SO aka K-2 from Rogue One plays an important part in the final chapter of Andor. He went on to state:
“You’re going to see why K-2 is so important in
Rogue One
,” Luna teases, “and how does he get to be such an important character for the Rebellion.”
K-2’s dry wit throughout Rogue One brought balance to an otherwise stoic Star Wars story about Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) leading the Rebellion into its next big move against the Galactic Empire. But Luna’s comments assure fans that K-2’s heroic sacrifice in the final battle won’t be the last of his story or his importance in that of others.

Season 2 is expected to land on Disney+ in 2025.
