The critically-acclaimed Star Wars series Andor has been absolutely phenomenal, and as fans eagerly await the second season, showrunner Tony Gilroy has confirmed that the story will head into a familiar location in the galaxy far, far away. Andor Season 2 is slated to premiere on Disney+ in April 2025, and the anticipation has been surreal, especially after such a well-written debut season.
Following the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian Andor’s fate has been set in stone as he ultimately sacrifices his life, along with the rest of his team, to steal the Death Star’s plans. So, a large part of Andor is always about him getting to that tragic ending, from being a lone survivor searching for his long-lost sister to becoming a pivotal figure in the Rebel Alliance. In a recent interview with Empire, Gilroy teased what fans can expect in Season 2, including the origins of an iconic location that has long been significant to Star Wars lore, Yavin 4. In his words:
“I mean, we have to end up in Yavin, right? So, we’ll tell the story of Yavin. No-one has quite dealt with Yavin the way we will be doing it.”
In the same conversation, Diego Luna, who plays Cassian in Andor, shared some insights about the locations fans can look forward to in Season 2. He stated:
“We move in space more than ever — the amount of planets and sets you’re going to get to see. There are some familiar and new locations.”
Season 1 of Andor chronicled Cassian’s first year in the Rebel Alliance, laying the groundwork for his eventual rise as a rebel fighting against the Empire. However, Season 2 will span the remaining four years leading up to the events of Rogue One, serving as the series’ final chapter, as previously revealed by Gilroy.
‘Andor’ Season 2 Will Be More Grandeur
Andor has redefined Star Wars storytelling by maintaining a slower pace while meticulously establishing every subplot. As a result, expectations for Season 2 are rather high, and the show’s decision to incorporate Yavin is an incredible move to set up a more grandeur conclusion. As Star Wars enthusiasts are well aware, Yavin is the location of the Rebel base from A New Hope, where the Battle of Yavin took place.
