And so it returns. Amazon Prime Day, the second of what we believe will be three Amazon-centric sales events this year is merely days away (we already saw the ‘Spring Deal Days’ sale in March). History tells us the best discounts will appear on Prime Day itself, but like badly-trained 100-metre sprinters, plenty of deals have jumped the gun and come out of the blocks early.
Despite the grammatical insinuation, Amazon Prime Day is actually a two-day event. It starts at 00:00 on Tuesday the 16th of July, and runs through ’til 23:59 pm on Wednesday the 17th.
Here at Cyclingnews, we spend a lot of time testing products, writing reviews, compiling buying guides and ultimately doing everything we can to help our readers choose the best product when making an upgrade. The natural extension of that is to help our readers find good deals when they become available on products we recommend and to adjust our advice where a price drop makes a different product a better choice.
Like Black Friday and the after-Christmas sales, Amazon Prime Day is an event where deals become available in spades.
As ever, for Prime Day 2024, we’ve manually checked every deal on this page and accompanied it with useful information, clear buying advice and price comparisons where helpful.
In the interest of not alienating our readers, we’re not going to recommend you buy any old tat just because it’s been reduced; all the products below are ones we’d happily use ourselves.
To take advantage of the Amazon Prime Day cycling deals, you’ll need to be signed up for Amazon Prime. Amazon offers a free trial period for new users, but you can cancel your trial before the first payment is taken.

Prime Day 2024: What we expect to see
Each year, the July Amazon Prime Day serves as the first ‘big’ deal event of the year, paving the way for a subsequent Prime Day in October and Black Friday in November. Earlier sales do exist, like the Spring Sale we saw in March, as well as sales around Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day, but in our experience, they tend to be weaker in terms of the quality of discounts offered. That is all to say we expect the discounts available this Prime Day will be worth checking out.
In terms of the products we expect to be discounted, we don’t have a crystal ball, but we can make some educated guesses based on product launch cycles and usual trends. Most people will know that Amazon’s own devices will be discounted on Prime Day; the Blink cameras and the Echo smart speakers always are! But what about in cycling?
Often the best discounts for cyclists is in tech products, such as bike computers, indoor bikes, headphones, heart rate monitors and so on.
We often find Garmin devices discounted. Usually that means Epix and Fenix smartwatches, but there is commonly an Edge computer in the mix with a best-ever saving. Given the recent launch of the Edge 1050, look for deals on the Edge 1040 and Edge 1040 Solar.
Headphones also get good discounts. Our recommended budget-friendly pair for indoor cycling is the JLab Go Air Pop – it’s the pair I use myself – and while they retail for around £25, they’ve been around for a while now so we expect to see them on offer too.
On the subject of headphones, Apple’s AirPods are a hugely popular product for cyclists (well, everyone really). We often see discounts on these too, and given there hasn’t been a new pair of AirPods since 2022, we expect discounts on both the AirPods and AirPods Pro models.
Beyond the techy products, we often see consumables given good discounts, and this presents a huge opportunity to save money in the longer term. Things like bike wash, energy gels, protein powder and chain lube are always given discounts on Prime Day, so if you know you use them throughout the year, take advantage of the discounts and stock up in advance, then enjoy feeling smug for the rest of the year.
