The head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, has revealed that the studio did try to persuade The Boys creator Eric Kripke to keep making the series beyond five seasons. It has now been confirmed that The Boysseason 5 will be the hit show’s last, and while Kripke has said in the past that the series could go on and on, Sanders revealed while speaking to The Wrap that ending with the fifth outing was all the creator’s idea. But it sounds like Amazon wanted a whole lot more…
“This is all about Eric Kripke. We’ve had this incredible success because of his vision and execution and he’s told us for a while that he believes this really should be a five-season series. Of course, we asked him, “Are you really sure it can’t go on for more?” And he gave it some thought, but came back to his original vision for this, so we want to honor that. And similarly, if there’s more to this universe, which would we love, that’s ultimately going to be about him leading the path there.”

The 10 Best Episodes of The Boys (So Far)
With Season 4’s cliffhanger ending, it is the perfect time to look back at some of the most memorable and flat-out diabolical episodes of The Boys.
While some fans will no doubt be disappointed that Kripke passed on the chance to bring more adventures with The Boys to Prime Video, the showrunner has explained why he felt ending with season 5 was the best decision for the show.
“Part of it is such a wonky stupid screenwriter thing but three and five are the big magical numbers for writing. Three is movie acts, TV acts are five. Jokes are a runner of three for five. Five just seems like a good round number. It’s enough to tell the story but also bring it to a climax without wearing out its welcome. It’s been hard because I haven’t been able to tell everyone. I was thrilled to finally be able to get the word out there.”
Gen V Season 2 Is Looking ‘Really Strong’
Of course, while the main series of The Boys is now all set to reach its conclusion, and bring an end to both Billy Butcher and Homelander, the franchise itself will live on. The Prime Video spinoff Gen V, which follows a group of young Supes at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, is now in production, and Sanders teases a “really strong” return…
“We love “Gen V.” Season 2 is turning out to be really strong. They’ve had their hardships obviously with the loss of Chance [Perdomo] but ultimately I think all fans of “The Boys” are really going to love that second season and stay tuned on whether there’s more.”
Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys takes place in a universe where super-powered individuals are recognized as heroes by the public and owned by the powerful corporation Vought International. However, outside their heroic personas, most of these “heroes” are arrogant and corrupt, with the series focusing on the titular Boys, a group of vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted superheroes under control. Season 4 has now concluded, and has left fans feeling all kinds of frustrated, surprised, and excited about what comes next.
