Alter Bridge formed in 2004 and has released many hits since the beginning of their career. But how did the original lineup come together? The band shared the story of their first jam session on social media.
“In the fall of 2003 Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall sent three demos to Myles Kennedy to record vocals on as a part of his audition to join Alter Bridge,” they wrote. “‘Broken Wings’ was the first demo that Myles sent back which lead to the guys flying him out to Orlando on January 2nd 2004 to jam. The band set up a rehearsal space and played together for the first time on January 4th, 2004. The content starts on the first day of Alter Bridge and spans thought the entire ‘One Day Remains’ album cycle. Happy 20th Anniversary of Alter Bridge.”
‘Broken Wings’ has been a sing-along anthem for both fans and the band.
“Fans always sing along to ‘Broken Wings,’” Mark Tremonti said of the song during an interview. “I think [a sing-along is] the most powerful thing in a set. You could play heavy, complex songs, but if a fan doesn’t sing along to it or get into it, it’s not going to have as much impact.”
Tremonti also explained the impact of the song: “‘Broken Wings’ is an easy song to play but as a huge impact because people are so familiar with it [that] they sing along to.”
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Alter Bridge released the first demo of ‘Broken Wings.’ They shared the news on their Instagram account and added that the band would post ‘video content from the first day of Alter Bridge through the ‘One Day Remains’ cycle.’
