In a recent interview on the JJO Morning Show, All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte talked about what it’s been like for him and his bandmates to support Megadeth on the current ‘Destroy All Enemies’ U.S. tour. The frontman shared his ideas on Dave Mustaine and revealed that he is not what people expect him to be.
“It is amazing. So, Dave Mustaine has a reputation of being kind of prickly or whatever. He has been the most accommodating, most friendly dude,” the rocker explained. “Literally, there were people on the tour that were, like, ‘Hey, look, make sure you go say hi to Dave,’ the first couple of days. And they’re, like, ‘Make sure you go say hi to Dave, ’cause he wants to hang out.’ He wants to know everyone.”
“And the whole Megadeth team has been great — the whole band is great and the crew’s been great. But one of the things that’s really struck me the most is how accommodating they are,” he added.
Labonte isn’t the only rocker to think that Mustaine is a way different person than what he looks like from the outside.
“Dave was easy to work with and a hella awesome host,” Testament’s Steve Di Giorgio wrote in a social media post. “And it was a great learning experience to use a pick more than I ever had before. I kept that little yellow plectrum in a case as a remembrance that being versatile goes a long way for opening doors to opportunities.”
The ‘difficult to work’ rumors gained popularity after Mustaine’s exit from Metallica in 1983. However, the rocker himself also denied earlier that he was hard to work with.
Megadeth’s tour with All That Remains is still on. The next date of the tour is on September 24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. September 28 is the last day of the tour and the band will be playing in the Municipal Auditorium at Nashville.
