Alex Van Halen shared a short clip of Eddie Van Halen’s last song, ‘Unfinished,’ on Instagram.
“‘Brothers,’ 10/22. ‘Unfinished’ by Alex and Edward Van Halen,” the drummer captioned the post, referring to the release date of his upcoming autobiography.
Besides the song, Alex also posted some photos from their childhood and their parents’ youth. The rocker included a photo from the early Van Halen days with Eddie and David Lee Roth.
The audiobook of Van Halen’s new memoir, ‘Brothers,’ will include the last song he wrote with his late brother. The song will play while Alex reads his story. ‘Brothers’ is described as a ‘love letter’ to Eddie.
“This is my tribute to my brother; my way of saying goodbye,” Alex stated. “Ed, I love you and miss you. When I see you again, I’m gonna kick your a**!” The 384-page book tells their story from childhood to Eddie’s death in 2020.
“I was with him from day one. We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic,” the drummer said.
He continued, “Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I’ve spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime.”
Alex didn’t join Sammy Hagar’s ongoing Best of All Worlds tour to honor the Van Halen legacy. The musician also doesn’t respond to Hagar’s efforts to reconnect. Hagar thinks it might be about his new book. The Red Rocker said, “I’m sure when he made his book deal, they said, ‘You cannot talk to Dave [Lee Roth, original Van Halen singer], and you cannot talk to Hagar. I guarantee you, that that was part of the deal.”
Van Halen’s last album, ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ came out in 2012. Their final concert was on October 4, 2015, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
