Though it was obvious that Van Halen wouldn’t make a comeback at all costs, the band’s drummer Alex Van Halen also recently confirmed it.
Alex Van Halen is set to auction off his personal gear and instrument collection soon. The news came from Backstage Auctions, Inc. as ‘The Alex Van Halen Collection.’
Backstage Auctions said in a statement:
“It is an unbelievable honor to represent one of the greatest rock drummers of all time and we could not be any more excited. Alex is the reason why so many people picked up a pair of drumsticks and this auction is a fantastic opportunity to see so many of his instruments and gear go to new homes. All of these pieces have a thick layer of magic ‘Al’ dust and we can only hope that it will bring boundless joy and thrills to their future owners.”
This auction celebrates Van Halen’s 40-year career, selling nearly 100 million albums worldwide. Alex’s legacy as a drummer is unmatched, and this auction honors the music he created with his brother Eddie.
Alex himself said of the collection:
“I always have pursued the best possible sound, which drove me every single day, every single album, and every single tour to be on top of my game. I hope that passing on all these pieces will inspire current and next generations to be the best they can be. Now, let’s have some fun — Van Halen style!”
What Does The Collection Feature?
The collection has over 350 lots with various memorabilia including drum kits, snare drums, kick drums, road cases, drumheads, cymbals, gongs, sticks and mallets, personal items, record awards, autographed pieces, and more. Each lot will include a personally signed certificate of authenticity from Alex.
Some of the standouts in the collection include the iconic ‘5150’ tour kit, the 2015 final tour kit, his vintage RIAA record awards, rare rosewood snare drums, gongs, a kick drum from the band’s early days, and even a piano from the Van Halen family home.
The auction is scheduled to open for bidding on June 1 and will end on June 9.
