Alex Van Halen has broken his silence about his decision to sell all of his equipment.
A few weeks ago, the Van Halen drummer revealed that he was ending his music career and selling all of his gear. Now recently, Backstage Auctions shared a statement from the drummer himself on Instagram. The rocker thanked everyone who bought his gear:
“What a fantastic auction! I am so happy to see my drums, gear, awards and collectibles go to new homes. Enjoy and use them like I did. And a huge ‘thank you’ for supporting the ride on therapeutic horsemanship. Van Halen fans are the best!”
Michael Anthony Is Shocked Alex Sold His Gear
The bassist Michael Anthony discussed Alex’s decision to sell his gear and instruments in an interview last week. He was asked if he still keeps in touch with the drummer or knows why he’s stepping away from music. Apparently, even he didn’t know Alex would ever sell his gear. He replied:
“I was pretty surprised when I heard about this auction that he’s going to be holding in the beginning of June. Somebody had sent me the link to it, and it appears like he’s selling everything right down to his last drumstick. So, I don’t know. I really couldn’t tell you.”
The bassist also guessed that since his brother Eddie Van Halen was gone, Alex no longer wanted to play music without him.
What Did Alex Sell?
The auction opened for bidding on June 1 and ended on June 9. During those eight days, the rocker put up 350 items for sale, including drum kits, snare drums, kick drums, road cases, drumheads, cymbals, gongs, sticks, mallets, personal items, record awards, autographed pieces, and more. Each item came with a signed certificate of authenticity from Alex.
This auction celebrated Van Halen’s 40-year journey, with almost 100 million albums sold worldwide.
