Star Wars fans are still reeling from Disney’s decision to cancel The Acolyte, and it looks like the bad news keeps coming, as it will be some time until Ahsoka Season 2 returns, according to one of the series stars. Ahsoka debuted on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, and despite originally being marketed as a miniseries, revealed itself to be the first part in a larger story, with Season 2 confirmed to be following shortly after the finale aired. Ahsoka not only sees Rosario Dawson reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano from The Mandalorian but, for many fans, acted as Star Wars: Rebels Season 5 as it saw the live-action debut of characters like Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren.
Sabrine Wren actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo recently attended Dragon Con and gave viewers an update on the status of Ahsoka Season 2. Bordizzo said, via MandoVerse Updates on X/Twitter, that Ahsoka Season 2 will be filming by Summer 2025. This means that the series likely won’t air on Disney+ until 2026, three years after the Ahsoka Season 1 finale ended on a major cliffhanger, with both Ahsoka and Sabine Wren stranded on the planet Peridea in another galaxy while Grand Admiral Thrawn made his return to the main Star Wars galaxy.
Star Wars Future Plans Are Taking Shape
Ahsoka Season 2 not debuting until 2026 is both disappointing but also expected in an age of streaming, where television shows often leave years apart between seasons. Star Wars fans still have plenty ot look forwaed to in the meantime. December will see the premiere of Skeleton Crew, the latest chapter in the corner of the franchise that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have carved out. In 2025, Andor will return for Season 2, which is also its final season. Like Ahsoka, Andor Season 2 will be arriving three years after the previous season debuted.
If Ahsoka Season 2 does premiere in 2026, it will be released the same year Star Wars makes its grand return to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu. The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to open in theaters on May 22, 2026, so Disney might opt to air Ahsoka after the film opens in theaters for a later summer or even holiday release. Ever since the release of The Force Awakens in December 2015, Star Wars has been heavily invested in releases close to the holiday season, from films like Rogue One, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker to television series like The Mandalorian Season 2 airing its season finale the week before Christmas to even Skeleton Crew holiday-centric release window.
Ahsoka Season 2 will likely be important in laying the groundwork for Dave Filoni’s planned Star Wars film, which will be a semi-sequel to The Mandalorian & Grogu and is teased as an epic crossover between Disney+ series like The Mandalorian, The Book of the Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. If that film is reliant on Ahsoka Season 2 laying out plot details for the film, it means that the feature film could take the planned December 17, 2027 slot that Lucasfilm has saved, or the film could even be released in 2028.
