The hit Marvel Disney Plus series Agatha All Along may go for another stroll down the Witches’ Road, as the studios’ plans for awards season seemingly reveal that the show is no longer a miniseries. While Agatha All Along was marketed as a one-and-done limited series, the show will be submitted in the comedy categories for the upcoming Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and the Emmy Awards under the Marvel Television Studios banner, Variety has learned. Which, due to a technicality in the submission requirements, could suggest that a second season is on the cards.
To be considered in the limited series categories, as stated by the Television Academy’s criteria, a show “must tell a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.” Agatha All Along not qualifying is a pretty big hint that Marvel is not done with Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness and Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff.
Competing in the comedy categories puts Agatha All Along up against some other big hitters, including the FX series The Bear, HBO series Hacks, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, and the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary, while lead Kathryn Hahn would find herself standing alongside the likes of Ayo Edebiri, Jean Smart, and Quinta Brunson.
Do You Want To See More From Agatha All Along?
While nothing has yet been announced regarding Agatha All Along Season 2, the report by Variety states that “the studio would have to prove to the TV Academy that more seasons are planned” or make an official announcement much like FX did with the critically acclaimed Shōgun, which will now return for at least two more seasons.
Agatha All Along would be far from the first MCU series to start life as a limited series before being brought back for more. Even the likes of Loki was originally planned as one season before bringing the God of Mischief back for more, with other shows such as Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and more the subject of much rumor and speculation regarding more outings.
